When we think we are not going to use the fountain pen for months or even years, it is necessary to store the fountain pen uncharged and dry. This way, when using it again we will have no problems of finding dry ink or any waste time may have caused on its inside, and we will be able to enjoy it as if we were using it again for first time. In this case, we must clean our fountain pen.
Once we have already washed the fountain pen, it is important to dry it carefully. The feeder's function is to retain ink, therefore a brief drying period may cause an incomplete evaporation of water.
Normally, fountain pen caps are hermetic. They are really effective for daily use in order to keep ink flowing, but they can be harmful when storing our fountain pens for a couple of months. Water vapor corrode metallic parts inside the cap and nib.
Furthermore, we recommend to keep the fountain pen open or uncapped with its nib faced upwards during at least two weeks. This way we will allow water to evaporate completely. When starting the drying process we can step up the elimination of water by resting the nib on absorbent paper.
Once the fountain pen is completely dry we can store it in a case or box always preferably horizontal in order to avoid any flaws!
