Vostok Europe Radio Room GMT recalls maritime radio silence periods with four highlighted sectors on a navy blue dial and a ceramic 24-hour bezel.
Radio Room watches and clocks helped ship radio operators observe periods of silence, when routine transmissions stopped so distress signals could be heard. Safety regulations developed after the Titanic disaster in 1912 established that listening practice. Four highlighted three-minute sectors, spaced at quarter-hour intervals, recall it on this watch’s textured navy blue gradient dial.
Super-LumiNova marks the hands and hour markers beneath a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Around the dial, a 48-click unidirectional bezel carries a ceramic ring with a 24-hour scale. The Japanese TMI NH34 automatic movement drives a separate GMT hand as well as the hour, minute, and seconds hands and date.
One circuit of the GMT hand takes 24 hours, giving a second time-zone reading against the fixed scale. Turning the bezel provides another reference for the same hand. The movement is visible through the case back and runs for approximately 41 hours from a full wind. Its 316L stainless steel case measures 46 mm across and 16.8 mm thick, with water resistance rated at 20 atm.
A two-tone steel bracelet with yellow gold PVD measures 22 mm at the lugs and closes with a folding clasp. The watch comes in an oak-veneered presentation box, and production is limited to 999 watches.
They helped ship radio operators observe scheduled periods of silence so distress signals could be heard. Rules developed after the Titanic disaster required a continuous radio watch and fixed listening periods. The dial’s marked sectors recall the 500 kHz radiotelegraph and later 2182 kHz radiotelephone distress frequencies.
Read the main hour and minute hands for one time zone, then read the separate GMT hand against the 24-hour scale for the other. The GMT hand makes one full turn per day and can be set separately from the main hour hand.
The exhibition back shows the automatic movement and the rotor that winds its mainspring. The rotor turns as the wrist moves, transferring that motion to the winding mechanism.
Sapphire has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, making it highly scratch-resistant. Harder materials can still mark it, and a strong impact can chip or crack it. The anti-reflective coating reduces glare on this watch’s domed crystal.
The 46 mm diameter describes the width of the case. Its 55.4 mm lug-to-lug measurement runs in the other direction, from the tip of one lug to the tip of the opposite lug. That longer measurement describes how far the case extends along the wrist, which the diameter alone does not show.
