Vostok Europe Lunokhod-2 Quartz Chronograph Watch with Graphite Dial.
The Lunokhod line is named for Lunokhod-2, which landed on the Moon on 15 January 1973 and covered 37 km in about 4 months, sending back more than 80,000 photographs. The Lunokhod-2 carries a perpetual calendar, a 24-hour chronograph and a 24-hour alarm. The case measures 49 mm in stainless steel 316L, 17.5 mm deep.
The S.Epson YM86 quartz chronograph calibre, made in Japan, drives hours, minutes, small seconds, a world time hour and minute and the day of the week, beneath a K1 crystal with anti-reflective coating. The crown and case back screw down, inside a unidirectional rotating bezel. An automatic valve in the case releases helium once the pressure difference reaches a critical level.
On the graphite dial, 13 Swiss tritium tubes stand vertically in reflectors on the dial, with 2 more in the hour and minute hands. Delivered with a leather strap and a silicone strap, 25 mm at the lugs, together with a replacement tool and a DryBox L.

What did Lunokhod-2 do?
It landed on the Moon on 15 January 1973 and worked for about 4 months. It covered 37 km and sent back 86 panoramic images and more than 80,000 photographs, a distance record for a rover on another body until the 21st century. Vostok Europe has built its watches in Vilnius, Lithuania, since August 2003, on Russian movements until 2014 and Japanese movements since.
How do the tritium tubes work?
Each marker is a sealed glass tube in which tritium gas makes a luminescent coating glow, continuously and with nothing to charge. This model carries 13 on the dial and 2 in the hands. The tubes are Trigalight, made by MB-microtec in Switzerland, a supplier of Vostok Europe since 2009, and after about 10 years their brightness settles at around 50 per cent.
How does the world time function work?
A separate hand pair shows the time in a 2nd city in 24-hour format, set independently from the main hands through the crown and the pushers.
What does the perpetual calendar do here?
It sets the date and day by the length of each month, leap years included, so the calendar follows the year on its own.
What is the helium release valve for?
Saturation diving. Helium works into the case under pressure and escapes slowly during decompression, and the valve opens automatically to vent it before the pressure can push the crystal out.
