Vostok Europe Expedition North Pole Polar Light Solar Quartz Watch with Blue Dial.
The Expedition North Pole line follows North Pole 1, the first drifting research station, opened on 6 June 1937 some 20 km from the Pole and closed on 19 February 1938 after 2,850 km on the ice. The Expedition North Pole Solar 24H adds a 24-hour indicator to a light-charged calibre. The case measures 47 mm in stainless steel 316L, 16.7 mm deep.
The S.Epson VS57 solar-powered quartz calibre, made in Japan, drives hours, minutes, seconds, date and a power storage indicator, beneath a K1 crystal with anti-reflective coating. A full charge runs for 5 months. The case back is solid.
The blue dial of the Polar Light is skeletonised in layers over the solar cell, with a fixed bezel, in a case finished in rainbow PVD. Super-LumiNova coats the hands and indices. Delivered with a leather strap and a silicone strap, 24 mm at the lugs, closed by a buckle.

What was North Pole 1?
The first drifting station for hydrological and geographical research in the polar area. It opened on 6 June 1937 about 20 km from the Pole, drifted 2,850 km on its ice floe over 9 months and closed on 19 February 1938. Vostok Europe has built its watches in Vilnius, Lithuania, since August 2003, on Russian movements until 2014 and Japanese movements since.
How long does it run on a charge?
About 5 months from a full charge. A solar cell under the dial converts any light into energy stored in a rechargeable cell, so daylight or a lamp keeps it running.
What is K1 crystal?
A synthetic crystal that combines the shock resistance of hardened mineral glass with a scratch resistance close to sapphire. On these cases it carries an anti-reflective coating for readability.
Does it wear as big as the diameter suggests?
The distance between the lugs decides that, and here it is 58.2 mm. That span sits across the top of the wrist and matters more than the 47 mm of the case.
Who makes the movement?
Seiko Epson in Japan. Vostok Europe used Russian movements until 2014 and Japanese suppliers since, so the case is assembled in Lithuania around a Japanese quartz calibre.
