Vostok Europe Energia II GMT Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
Limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide. The Energia II line is named for the Energia launcher, which first flew in 1987 after 10 years of development and could carry payloads of up to 100 tons. The Energia II GMT tracks a 2nd time zone on a 24-hour hand. The case measures 48 mm in stainless steel 316L, 17.3 mm deep.
The TMI NH34 automatic GMT calibre, made in Japan, drives hours, minutes, seconds and date, beneath a K1 crystal with anti-reflective coating. A full wind holds 41 hours. The crown screws down, the case back opens on the movement, and the unidirectional bezel carries a diver scale. A spring-loaded valve releases helium from the case once the pressure difference reaches a critical level.
The black dial carries metal indexes. 13 tritium tubes sit in reflectors on the dial, 3 on the hour and minute hands and 1 in a sapphire capsule on the bezel. The set includes a leather strap and a silicone strap, 26 mm at the lugs, together with a replacement tool and a DryBox XL.
The launcher of the Soviet Energia-Buran programme. It first flew in 1987 after 10 years of development and could carry payloads of up to 100 tons. Vostok Europe has built its watches in Vilnius, Lithuania, since August 2003, on Russian movements until 2014 and Japanese movements since.
Each marker is a sealed glass tube in which tritium gas makes a luminescent coating glow, continuously and with nothing to charge. This model carries 13 on the dial, 3 in the hands and 1 on the bezel. The tubes are Trigalight, made by MB-microtec in Switzerland, a supplier of Vostok Europe since 2009, and after about 10 years their brightness settles at around 50 per cent.
A 4th hand turns once every 24 hours against a 24-hour track, independent of the hour hand, so home time reads off the same dial as local time.
Saturation diving. Helium works into the case under pressure and escapes slowly during decompression, and the valve opens automatically to vent it before the pressure can push the crystal out.
The movement from the bridge side, with the rotor that winds the mainspring as the wrist moves and the balance swinging beside it.
