The Visconti Checkmate fountain pen turns antiqued bronze into a cylindrical chessboard, with magnetic miniature pieces for a game on the pen itself.
The faceted bronze barrel and cap carry an enameled, 64-square chessboard with A–H lettering for the coordinates. King figures sit at both ends, and Visconti and Checkmate engravings distinguish the barrel from the cap. Magnetic miniature pieces make the cylindrical board playable. A small A marker lines up with the nib, showing where the board begins and helping you orient the pen when opening it.
The ivory-and-brown wooden box doubles as a chessboard. It holds 32 miniature pieces in bronze and silver tones, with dedicated compartments and a rotating pen stand for play. The edition is limited to 88 instruments, a nod to the traditional eight-by-eight board.
It has an 18k gold nib, uses a double-reservoir Power Filler for bottled ink, and closes with a magnetic cap.
