Venezianico Nereide Bronzo 39 pairs 1950s dive-watch details and a white dial with a bronze case that develops its own patina.
QAl9-4 marine bronze
The case and bezel insert are QAl9-4 bronze, an aluminum-bronze marine alloy. It oxidizes gradually, so its patina depends on exposure and handling. The screw-down 316L steel back keeps the bronze off your wrist.
A vintage dive-watch dial
Applied ingot-shaped markers have satin-finished tops. Gold-tone printing and a fine circle around the dial borrow from 1950s dive watches. Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the hands, markers, and bezel helps you read the time in low light. The Tropic-style strap adds to the vintage feel.
Bronze and the lagoon
In the 19th century, bronze diving helmets were used for underwater work in the Venetian lagoon. The steel case back carries the Horses of St. Mark, the sculptures that inspired the choice of bronze.
The details
The Japanese Miyota 9039 automatic movement shows hours, minutes, and seconds, with no date. The 39 mm bronze case measures 45.5 mm lug to lug and is 10.65 mm thick.
The case has a screw-down crown, a 120-click rotating bezel, and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 200 meters. The white FKM rubber strap, with a woven-look pattern and ventilation holes, closes with a pin buckle. The line takes its name from the Nereide, a submarine built in Venice in 1919 and part of the city’s naval history.
It was the name of a submarine built in Venice between 1911 and 1913. Its naval engineering history inspired the collection’s maritime design and rotating bezels.
Align the bezel’s reference marker with the minute hand at the start of an interval. As the hand advances, the scale shows elapsed minutes. With 120 clicks around a 60-minute scale, each click corresponds to half a minute. The bezel measures time independently of the movement.
Oxidation gradually changes the bronze’s tone and surface. Moisture, handling, and exposure affect how the patina develops, so the color and rate of aging vary from case to case.
Wind it by hand before putting it on. Venezianico recommends about 20–30 turns of the crown to provide an initial reserve. If the crown screws down, unscrew it before winding and secure it afterward. The rotor replenishes the reserve as you wear the watch, though light activity may not supply enough energy to keep it running.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
