U-Boat Classico 42 Tungsteno Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
The Classico line descends from the diving watch Ilvo Fontana drew in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, and carries the left-hand crown that drawing placed there. The Classico brings the line down to 42 mm and reveals the movement through a mineral crystal case back, its stainless steel case 42 mm in diameter.
An automatic mechanical movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, date and a 24-hour counter beneath a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, with the mineral crystal case back secured by six screws. The bezel is polished tungsten.
Built in three layers, black, the dial leaves a ruby visible, and its indexes and numerals are treated with beige Super-LumiNova for legibility in the dark. The watch is fitted with a brown laser-cut leather strap aged by a natural process and handmade in Tuscany, secured by a shiny steel tongue buckle.

Why does the crown sit on the left?
It comes from a watch Ilvo Fontana drew in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, a diver whose crown sat on the left so the hands could be set from that side. His grandson Italo Fontana founded U-Boat in Lucca around that drawing, and the patented clamp over the crown is the part he added.
What does the 24-hour indication tell you?
A hand that turns once a day against a track marked from 1 to 24, so a glance separates morning from evening on a dial whose hour hand turns twice. Marine and aviation logs keep a 24-hour clock, which is where the reading comes from.
What is visible through the dial?
The movement itself. The dial is cut away over the bridges and the balance, so the wheel that sets the rate of the watch swings into view several times a second for as long as the watch is running.
Why is the bezel made of tungsten?
Tungsten is far harder than steel, so a polished tungsten bezel holds its mirror finish through the knocks that would dull a steel one. U-Boat took it up as one of its own innovations, alongside the crown on the left and the patented release that frees it from its stop.
What can you see through the case back?
The movement from the bridge side, with the oscillating weight that winds the mainspring as the wrist moves and the balance swinging at the far end. That weight is cut open so the gear train stays in view behind it.
