U-Boat Capsoil Darkmoon Unico Quartz Watch with Brown Dial.
The Capsoil line fills the case entirely with low-viscosity oil, reading the dial through the fluid bath under a compensation bubble that absorbs thermal expansion between 0 and 60 °C. This Capsoil Darkmoon Unico is a numbered edition finished by hand in aged bronze PVD, each case oxidised to its own pattern. The case measures 44 mm in stainless steel with aged bronze PVD.
A Swiss Ronda 712.3 quartz calibre runs submerged in the oil, sealed beneath a curved sapphire crystal. A distinctive protector covers the crown on the left, while a Locking Ring System on the case back gives access to the battery and the oil without requiring factory intervention. Successive baths of oxidising acids are applied by hand, so the antiqued finish lands differently on every case.
The dial is domed, in painted metal with an aged finish, held in brown. Hands are treated with black Super-LumiNova for nocturnal legibility. Fitted with a laser-cut aged leather strap in cognac, handmade in Tuscany with waxed cotton stitching, 22 mm at the lugs, secured by a 316L steel buckle with aged bronze PVD treatment.

What is the oil inside the case for?
It fills the space between the dial and the crystal. Light travels through the oil at close to the same speed as through the crystal, so the reflection drops away and the hands read as if they sat on the surface. An air bubble takes up the change in volume as the temperature moves.
Where does the U-Boat design come from?
From a drawing Ilvo Fontana made in 1942 for the Italian naval military forces, a diving watch that stayed on paper. His grandson Italo Fontana revived it in Lucca and founded U-Boat on its proportions and on the crown set on the left side of the case.
What is the coating on the case?
Physical vapour deposition. The coating metal is vaporised in a vacuum chamber and bonded to the steel as a hard layer, which holds up to daily abrasion far better than electroplating of the same thickness.
How long does the Superluminova stay lit?
It is a phosphorescent pigment, so it charges from daylight or a lamp and gives its brightest reading in the first minutes. It fades over the hours after that and takes a fresh charge every time it meets light again.
Who makes the movement?
Ronda, in Switzerland. It supplies calibres to a long list of houses under their own names, which is how a watch assembled in Tuscany carries Swiss movement engineering inside an Italian case.
