U-Boat U-65 TEK Quartz Watch with Black Dial.
The U-65 collection features a curved dial beneath the crystal, while time is set using a button on the case back to create an uninterrupted surface across the front. This oil-filled U-65 TEK has a 44 mm stainless steel case.
A Swiss Ronda 756 quartz movement operates while submerged in the oil, protected beneath a domed sapphire crystal. A Locking Ring System on the case back provides access to the battery and oil without requiring factory intervention. The lugs articulate where they meet the case, allowing the strap to follow the wrist.
The black dial consists of three overlapping layers arranged to create a printed-circuit effect. The hands and numerals are treated with beige Super-LumiNova for legibility in low-light conditions. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap measuring 22 mm at the lugs and secured by a steel buckle.

What is the oil inside the case for?
It fills the space between the dial and the crystal. Light travels through the oil at nearly the same speed as through the crystal, making reflections disappear and the hands appear to sit on the surface. An air bubble accommodates changes in oil volume as the temperature changes.
How is the battery changed on a watch filled with oil?
A watchmaker opens and closes the Locking Ring System on the case back to replace the battery and top up the oil in a single operation. This system allows the service to be performed locally without requiring factory intervention.
Where does the U-Boat design come from?
The design traces its origins to a drawing Ilvo Fontana made in 1942 for the Italian naval forces, a diving watch that remained on paper. His grandson, Italo Fontana, revived the design in Lucca and founded U-Boat around its proportions and distinctive left-side crown.
How do you set the time?
Time is set using a button on the case back. Moving the setting control away from the side of the case creates an uninterrupted profile and allows the curved dial to extend to the edge of the crystal.
How long does the Super-LumiNova stay lit?
Super-LumiNova is a phosphorescent pigment charged by exposure to daylight or artificial light. It provides its brightest illumination during the first few minutes and gradually fades over the following hours. Exposure to light recharges it for subsequent use.
