Namiki Nippon Art Mount Fuji and Ship Fountain Pen.
A hand-turned maki-e body with gold trim with Mount Fuji and Ship urushi lacquer. Nippon Art draws its subjects on a black lacquered background in Hira Maki-e or flat maki-e. The workshop behind them is Kokkokai formed in 1931 around Gonroku Matsuda who went on to be named a living national treasure and whose name or that of the individual artisan is inscribed on the piece. The lacquer is applied by hand with the tame-nuri technique, so each piece is unique in its grain. It writes with a Namiki nib in 14k gold, filled by cartridge / converter and a screw-on cap. The piece measures 142.2 mm capped with a body 11.8 mm in diameter. Official hand-made Namiki product, backed by the manufacturer's warranty.
The focal point of this piece is a fascinating composition where a small boat is in front of the imposing presence of Mount Fuji, represented in the background at the center of the scene. It becomes a captivating writing instrument with striking maki-e decoration and an efficient 14-carat solid gold nib available in various thicknesses. As for its presentation, the Namiki Mount Fuji and Ship Nippon Art fountain pen come in a beautiful wooden case with a padded velvet bed inside.
