The Victorinox I.N.O.X. Chrono is a 43 mm quartz chronograph with a grainy blue dial and a case water resistant to 200 meters.
Timing to 1/10 second
Three chronograph hands count the elapsed minutes, seconds, and tenths of a second. A split-time function freezes the hands for an intermediate reading while the chronograph keeps timing. A tachymeter scale engraved on the inner bezel lets you work out average speed from the time taken over a known distance.
Recycled steel, layered dial
The case and bezel contain 60 to 70 percent recycled stainless steel, and an anti-scratch coating protects the bezel. The dial has a layered, three-dimensional design around its subdials. Super-LumiNova on the hands and indexes helps you read the time in low light.
Tested hard since 2014
Victorinox introduced the I.N.O.X. in 2014 and built it to pass 130 endurance tests, from a 10-meter drop to a 64-ton tank driving over the watch. The name comes from inox, French shorthand for stainless steel. The same word gave Victorinox the second half of its name in 1921.
The details
The Swiss Ronda 5040.E quartz movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, and chronograph beneath a sapphire crystal. The day appears at 12 o’clock and the date at 6 o’clock.
The stainless steel case measures 43 mm across and 13 mm thick, and the watch weighs 220 grams on its bracelet. The screw-down crown is protected against impacts, and the case back screws in. The case meets the ISO standards for magnetic resistance (ISO 764), shock resistance (ISO 1413), and water resistance (ISO 22810). Water resistance is rated at 200 meters, enough for scuba diving.
The steel bracelet, 21 mm at the lugs, fastens with a butterfly clasp. The watch is made in Switzerland.
Press one pusher to start and stop timing. While the chronograph is timing, the other pusher freezes the hands for a split time. Once the chronograph is stopped, that same pusher resets the hands to zero.
Yes. It is water resistant to 200 meters, which Victorinox rates for scuba diving. Keep the crown screwed down, don’t use the crown or pushers underwater, and rinse the watch in fresh water after swimming in the ocean.
V241984 comes on a blue rubber strap with a pin buckle and weighs 140 grams. Both have the blue dial, the 43 mm case, and the Ronda 5040.E chronograph.
About two years, and less if you use the chronograph often. Victorinox uses a mercury-free battery and recommends having it replaced at an authorized service center.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
