Venezianico Nereide GMT Automatic Watch with Violet Dial.
The Nereide line is the diving register of the house, named for the Nereide, a submarine of Venetian naval engineering dating to 1919, and it carries the deepest water ratings Venezianico builds. This one reads a second zone from a travel calibre whose crown jumps the local hour hand in whole hours. The case measures 39 mm in stainless steel 316L, 11.90 mm deep.
The Miyota 9075 winds itself from the motion of the wrist. The crown jumps the local hour hand forward or back in whole hours while the 24-hour hand holds the reference and the seconds run on.
The dial is violet. The case back is engraved with the Earth ringed by its time zones, which marks the conference of 1884 that fixed them. It is worn on the Sansovino bracelet in steel.

What does the name Nereide refer to?
A submarine of 1919 that the house calls a marvel of Venetian naval engineering. The line is the diving register of Venezianico, rated to 200 metres, with a bezel that turns in 120 clicks and a bezel insert harder than the steel around it. Venezianico was started in late 2017 by the brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli while they were studying at Ca’ Foscari in Venice, and it works out of San Donà di Piave.
How does the GMT hand work on this calibre?
It is a travel GMT. The crown jumps the local hour hand forward or back in whole hours while the 24-hour hand and the running seconds carry on undisturbed, so you land, pull the crown, and set the new zone with the watch still going.
What do you do if it has stopped?
Turn the crown about 20 times to put some wind in the mainspring, set the time, and put it on. From there the weight inside keeps it wound as long as you wear it most days.
How hard is the sapphire crystal?
Synthetic sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just under diamond, so the everyday abrasives that mark a mineral crystal leave it alone. It is brittle in exchange, so a sharp impact on the edge is what to avoid.
Who makes the movement?
Miyota, the movement arm of Citizen in Japan. Its 9 series automatics run at 28 800 beats an hour and are among the most widely used in the world, which makes them cheap to service and easy to find parts for decades on.
