Ball Roadmaster Pilot GMT Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
Limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide. Roadmaster takes the Engineer protection into specialised instruments: tide tables, pulsometers, triple time zones and moon phases, each one built around a job. The Pilot GMT reads a second and third zone from a bidirectional bezel, in titanium. The case measures 40 mm in titanium, 14 mm deep.
The Ball RR1204-C is a self-winding calibre. 27 sealed glass tubes of tritium gas light the hands, the indices and the bezel, each one self-powered for 25 years. Around it, the case absorbs impact to 5,000 Gs and magnetic protection reaches 4,800 A/m.
With 27 tubes across the face, the whole display reads at once in the dark, at the brightness it held the year before.

What happens to the gas tubes over the years?
The 27 tubes hold tritium gas, which emits its own light through radioactive decay, continuously and on its own energy. Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years, so the glow fades slowly. Ball rates the tubes for at least 25 years of useful reading.
Is it affected by magnets?
The case holds magnetic protection to 4,800 A/m, which covers the everyday sources that shift the rate of a mechanical watch.
What is the difference between the GMT hand and the bezel?
The central hands show local time, the GMT hand reads a second zone against the 24-hour scale, and turning the bezel sets a third. Three zones read at once from one dial.
Is 30 atm of any use if I never dive?
It changes the seals, the crown and the case back. A case rated to 30 atm keeps water out through years of showers, swimming and the pressure changes of a flight, long after the gaskets of a lighter case have hardened.
Does the crown screw down?
Yes. It threads into the case and compresses its gasket, which is what holds the water resistance. Unscrew it to set the time, and screw it back before the watch goes near water.
