Timex Q Timex NASA Quartz Watch with Black Dial.
The Q Timex line began with the reissue of a 1979 quartz Timex and keeps the styling of the late 1970s. The Q Timex x NASA pays homage to the Apollo 17 mission of 1972. In stainless steel, the case measures 40 mm in diameter and 13.5 mm in thickness.
A quartz multifunction movement powers the day of the week, date and a day and night indicator beneath the domed acrylic crystal, framed by a tachymeter top ring. The case back reproduces the Blue Marble photograph.
Sun and moon illustrations mark the black dial, with a luminous moon in the day sub-dial. A black leather strap of 18 mm at the lugs closes on a pin buckle.

What does the day and night counter show?
Whether the hour reading falls in the morning or the evening, drawn as a sun and a moon that turn past a window. On a 12-hour dial that is the part the hands leave ambiguous.
How does an acrylic crystal hold up?
It takes a knock that would shatter glass, which is why aviation and space watches used it for decades. It marks more easily in exchange, and a scuff polishes out at home with a cloth and a little compound.
Where does the Q Timex come from?
The quartz watches Timex built in the late 1970s. The line began with the reissue of a 1979 model and keeps the acrylic crystal and the styling of the period.
What keeps time inside it?
A quartz crystal is cut to vibrate at a fixed rate, and a circuit counts those vibrations down to step the hands once a second. It holds a few seconds a month and requires a new battery every few years.
Can you change the strap?
Yes. The lugs accept standard 18 mm spring bars, so any band of that width fits, and a watchmaker can swap it in a couple of minutes.
