Timex Q Timex Continental Chronograph Quartz Watch with Blue Dial.
The Q Timex line reissues the quartz watches the house built in the 1970s, down to the acrylic crystal, the coloured top ring and a bracelet cut to period. This one times an interval under a top ring that turns a single way, on a dial worked in radial texture. The case measures 40 mm in stainless steel, 10 mm deep.
The movement is quartz. A mechanical chronograph module sits over the quartz timekeeping, which is what carries the timing hand round in a sweep where a quartz chronograph steps.
The texture runs outwards across the blue dial, so the face keeps its motion while the markers stay flat and legible over it. It is worn on a bracelet in stainless steel.

What is a meca-quartz chronograph?
A hybrid. Quartz keeps the time, and a mechanical module drives the chronograph, so the timing hand sweeps round the dial in a continuous arc where a quartz chronograph steps once a second, and it flies back to zero at the push of the reset.
How does a mineral crystal hold up?
It resists scratching better than acrylic and takes an impact better than sapphire, which is brittle. A deep mark stays, so it is the crystal that asks least of you and forgives most.
What does the Q in Q Timex stand for?
The quartz watches the house built in the 1970s, which the line reissues down to the acrylic crystal, the coloured top ring and a bracelet cut to the pattern of the period. The house carries the Waterbury Watch Company of Connecticut behind it, and the stylised W of that company still appears on the dials and crowns of the Waterbury line.
What keeps time inside it?
A quartz crystal cut to vibrate at a fixed rate, counted down by a circuit that steps the hands once a second. It holds a few seconds a month and it asks for a new cell every few years.
Can you change the strap?
Yes. The lugs take a standard spring bar at 12 mm, so any band of that width fits, and a watchmaker swaps it in a couple of minutes.
