Timex Marlin Jet Chronograph Quartz Watch with Brown Dial.
The Marlin line brings back the dress watch Timex sold through the 1960s, and it keeps the domed acrylic crystal and the slim polished case the original wore. This one takes the space-age design of the 1960s into a brushed case, under a domed Hesalite crystal. The case measures 40 mm in recycled steel, 13.5 mm deep.
The movement is quartz. A mechanical chronograph module sits over the quartz timekeeping, which is what carries the timing hand round in a sweep where a quartz chronograph steps.
The dial is brown. The steel of the case comes from recycled stock, remelted and drawn again for this run. It is worn on brown leather.

What is a meca-quartz chronograph?
A hybrid. Quartz keeps the time, and a mechanical module drives the chronograph, so the timing hand sweeps round the dial in a continuous arc where a quartz chronograph steps once a second, and it flies back to zero at the push of the reset.
How does an acrylic crystal hold up?
It takes a knock that would shatter glass, which is why aviation and space watches used it for decades. It marks more easily in exchange, and a scuff polishes out at home with a cloth and a little compound.
What was the original Marlin?
The dress watch Timex sold through the 1960s, on a slim polished case under a domed acrylic crystal. The line brings that case back and runs it on modern movements. The house carries the Waterbury Watch Company of Connecticut behind it, and the stylised W of that company still appears on the dials and crowns of the Waterbury line.
What keeps time inside it?
A quartz crystal cut to vibrate at a fixed rate, counted down by a circuit that steps the hands once a second. It holds a few seconds a month and it asks for a new cell every few years.
Can you change the strap?
Yes. The spring bars carry a quick-release lever, so the band comes off with a fingernail and any strap of 20 mm fits in its place.
