What was the LZ 129 Hindenburg?
A rigid airship 245 meters long that entered service in 1936. By volume it remains the largest aircraft ever built, and the line takes its name from it.
Where is it made?
In Germany, at the Zeppelin in-house production in Ruhla, Thuringia. The movement comes from a Swiss or a Japanese maker, and the specification identifies it.
How often does the moon phase need correcting?
The disc models the lunar month as 29.5 days against a true 29.53, which leaves it about a day out every 30 months, and a correction through the crown or pusher brings it back.
What is the calendar week indication?
The ISO week number, from 1 to 53. Northern European business schedules by week numbers as much as by dates, and the dial gives that reading alongside the day and the date.
What is a Hesalite crystal?
An acrylic crystal, the same material aviation and space watches used for decades. It takes a knock that would shatter glass, and a scuff polishes out with a cloth and a little compound at home.
