Alpina Startimer Pilot Quartz Chronograph Big Date Watch with Blue Dial.
The Startimer collection follows the pilot watches Alpina has supplied to professional aviators since 1921. The Startimer Pilot Quartz Chronograph Big Date adds chronograph counters and a big date at 6 o’clock to a dial Alpina lays out for pilots. The stainless steel case measures 41 mm in diameter and 12.75 mm in thickness.
Under a scratch-resistant convex sapphire crystal, an AL-372 quartz movement powers a chronograph with small seconds and a big date at 6 o’clock. The case is sealed by a screw-down crown.
The petrol blue dial is matte, carrying the chronograph counters, and hands and indexes take a white luminescent treatment. The watch is fitted with a brown calf leather strap measuring 21 mm at the lugs.

What is the Startimer collection built for?
Flying. Alpina has supplied watches to professional pilots since 1921, and the Startimer keeps the clean, legible dials of those early pilot watches. Gottlieb Hauser founded Alpina in 1883, and the brand produces and assembles its movements and watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva.
How do you return the chronograph hands to zero?
Hold pushers 1 and 4 together for 2 seconds until the chronograph seconds hand makes a full turn. Pusher 1 then corrects the hand in view, and pusher 4 moves on to the hour counter and then the minute counter.
How long does the battery last?
Alpina gives the AL-372 a battery life of about 48 months. When the time comes, an Alpina service center replaces the battery and checks the gaskets so the water resistance holds.
Who makes the movement?
Alpina builds the AL-372 on a Swiss Ronda 8040 quartz base and assembles its watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, as part of the Frederique Constant group.
How does the luminescent treatment work?
The pigment on the hands and markers stores light and releases it in the dark. It is brightest just after exposure to daylight, fades gradually through the night and recharges the next time it sees light.
