Ball Engineer Master II Diver Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
Limited to 1,000 pieces worldwide. Engineer Master II is the diving branch of the Engineer family, built around inner rotating bezels lit by their own gas tubes and cases rated well past recreational depth. The Master II Diver turns its bezel inside the crystal, lit by 36 gas tubes, inside a mu-metal inner case and on the Amortiser system. The case measures 42 mm in stainless steel, 13.5 mm deep.
The Ball RR1101-C holds COSC chronometer certification and runs 42 hours. 36 sealed glass tubes of tritium gas light the hands, the indices and the bezel, each one self-powered for 25 years. Around it, the case absorbs impact to 5,000 Gs and magnetic protection reaches 80,000 A/m — 1,000 Gauss, held by an inner case of mu-metal, an alloy of nickel, iron, copper and molybdenum that draws field lines around the movement.
The 36 tubes hold the same brightness year after year, on their own energy.

What happens to the gas tubes over the years?
The 36 tubes hold tritium gas, which emits its own light through radioactive decay, continuously and on its own energy. Tritium has a half-life of 12.3 years, so the glow fades slowly. Ball rates the tubes for at least 25 years of useful reading.
What does COSC certification actually guarantee?
The movement was tested for 15 days by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres in 5 positions and at 3 temperatures, and it has to hold an average daily rate between -4 and +6 seconds. The certificate covers the movement as tested, before it was cased.
What does 1,000 Gauss protect against in practice?
80,000 A/m is the equivalent of 1,000 Gauss, which covers the magnets you meet in a normal day — speaker surrounds, laptop and tablet closures, handbag clasps, induction hobs. An inner case of mu-metal, an alloy of nickel, iron, copper and molybdenum, draws the field lines around the movement.
What does the Amortiser system do?
A ring around the movement damps the shock before it reaches the gear train, and a brake holds the rotor so that an impact stops it turning violently on its axis, which is how a shock usually damages an automatic movement.
Is 30 atm of any use if I never dive?
It changes the seals, the crown and the case back. A case rated to 30 atm keeps water out through years of showers, swimming and the pressure changes of a flight, long after the gaskets of a lighter case have hardened.
