Timex Expedition Pioneer Titanium Automatic Watch with Black Dial.
The Expedition line is the outdoor register of the house, built on cases that take a knock and dials read at a glance, with compass and tide instruments at the top of it. This one times an interval on a top ring that turns a single way, in grade 2 titanium, with the movement in view at the back. The case measures 41 mm in titanium, 13.5 mm deep.
The Seiko NH34 winds itself from the motion of the wrist.
The dial is black. Titanium weighs about 40 per cent less than steel for the same case, which is what keeps a diver of this size light on the wrist. It is worn on a bracelet in titanium.

How hard is the sapphire crystal?
Synthetic sapphire sits at 9 on the Mohs scale, just under diamond, so the everyday abrasives that mark a mineral crystal leave it alone. It is brittle in exchange, so a sharp knock on the edge is what to avoid.
What can you see through the back?
The movement from the bridge side. You see the weight that winds the mainspring as the wrist moves, the gear train under its bridges, and the balance swinging at the far end of it.
What is the Expedition line for?
Outdoor use. The cases are built to take a knock, the dials read at a glance, and the instruments at the top of the range carry a compass, a thermometer and a tide tracker. The house carries the Waterbury Watch Company of Connecticut behind it, and the stylised W of that company still appears on the dials and crowns of the Waterbury line.
Who makes the movement?
Seiko Instruments in Japan, the arm that supplies movements to other houses under the NH references. They are built to be serviced anywhere, which is what keeps a mechanical watch running decades on.
Can you change the strap?
Yes. The spring bars carry a quick-release lever, so the band comes off with a fingernail and any strap of 20 mm fits in its place.
