The Victorinox Journey 1884 Automatic has a self-winding Swiss movement and a matte blue dial with arrow-tipped hands modeled on Swiss hiking signposts.
Automatic, with a rotating bezel
The Sellita SW200-1 has a 38-hour power reserve, and its rotor winds the mainspring as you move your wrist. The steel bezel turns in one direction. Once its marker is lined up with the minute hand, the scale shows how many minutes have passed.
A Swiss Army Knife counterweight
The second hand has a counterweight shaped like a Swiss Army Knife. ANTIMAGNETIC is printed on the dial.
Named for 1884
Journey 1884 takes its name from the year Karl Elsener opened his cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, where Victorinox began. Victorinox introduced the line in 2022. The year 1884 also appears on the bezel.
The details
The Swiss Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds, and date beneath a sapphire crystal.
The stainless steel case measures 43 mm across and 12 mm thick, and the watch weighs 210 grams. The crown screws down, and the case back screws in. Water resistance is rated at 200 meters, enough for scuba diving.
The steel bracelet, 21 mm at the lugs, fastens with a deployant clasp. The watch is made in Switzerland.
About 38 hours when fully wound. Daily wear keeps the mainspring wound. After a longer period off the wrist, unscrew the crown, give it a few turns to restart the watch, and screw it back down.
Yes. It is water resistant to 200 meters, which Victorinox rates for scuba diving. Keep the crown screwed down, never unscrew it underwater, and rinse the watch in fresh water after swimming in the ocean.
Unscrew the crown, pull it out one click, and turn it until the right date appears. Then push it in and screw it down. Avoid setting the date between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., when the date mechanism is engaged.
V241980.1 comes on a brown wood strap with a spare blue rubber strap and weighs 130 grams. Both have the matte blue dial and the Sellita SW200-1 movement.
Sapphire’s hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale makes it highly resistant to everyday scratches. It can still be scratched by harder materials, and a hard impact can chip or crack it, especially at an edge.
