Alpina Heritage Carrée Automatic 140 Years Watch with Silver Dial.
Heritage re-issues watches from the Alpina archive, keeping their proportions and details and bringing in present-day materials such as sapphire crystal. The Carrée takes up the Art Deco spirit of the hand-wound Calibre 490 watch of 1938 in a minimalist rectangular case 39 mm long. The case measures 32.5 mm in stainless steel, 9.71 mm deep.
The AL-530 winds itself from the motion of the wrist and runs 38 hours. The dial keeps a sector minute track typical of the 1930s, period Arabic numerals, dauphine hands and the original Alpina logo.
Small seconds at 6 o’clock recall vintage pocket watches. Black numerals on matt silver suit the light brown ostrich strap.

Where do the Heritage designs come from?
From models in the Alpina archive, reworked with present-day materials such as a sapphire crystal. Gottlieb Hauser founded the house in 1883, and Alpina produces and assembles its movements and watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva.
What does 140 Years refer to?
The 140 years since Gottlieb Hauser founded the house in 1883. The Carrée marks that history with the Art Deco style of the Calibre 490 watch of 1938, a rectangular case and a sector dial.
How long does it run off the wrist?
About 38 hours from a full wind. Daily wear keeps the mainspring topped up, and after longer in a drawer a few turns of the crown restart it.
Who makes the movement?
Alpina builds the AL-530 on a Swiss Sellita SW261 automatic base, and the house assembles its watches at its manufacture in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva, as part of the Frederique Constant group.
How does the luminescent treatment work?
The pigment on the hands and markers stores light and gives it back in the dark. It is brightest just after exposure to daylight, fades gradually through the night and recharges the next time it sees light.
