Overview
The Pilot Capless in matte black gives the retractable fountain pen a subdued lacquer finish. Its 18k gold nib is stored inside the barrel when not in use, keeping the exterior free of a separate cap.
The Capless series began in 1963 with that approach to fountain pen design. On this model, a push button extends the nib for writing and retracts it behind an internal shutter afterward. It accepts Pilot ink cartridges or a compatible converter for bottled ink, and a converter is included.
Made in Japan, it measures 154 mm long. The barrel is 13 mm wide, and the pen weighs 43 g.

Questions & Answers
How does the Capless work without a separate cap?
Press the button to extend the nib for writing, then press it again to retract it into the barrel. An internal shutter closes over the retracted nib to help protect it from drying out.
Which cartridges and converter fit this Capless?
It accepts Pilot IC-50 ink cartridges or a Pilot CON-40 converter for bottled fountain pen ink. A converter is included.
How should I care for the lacquered exterior?
Clean the lacquered exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners.
