Overview
The Pilot Falcon in metallic black has a glossy lacquer finish and rhodium-plated trim, with a distinctive rhodium-plated 14k gold nib. Developed in Japan as the Elabo and introduced in 1978, the design was intended to express the strokes of Japanese characters with a responsive, brush-like writing feel. The nib’s beak-like shape later gave the pen its Falcon name overseas.
Changes in pressure on downstrokes can produce variation in line width, while the nib also allows everyday writing without deliberate flexing. The fountain pen closes with a screw-on cap and accepts Pilot ink cartridges or a compatible converter for bottled ink.
Made in Japan, it measures 139 mm capped, 126 mm uncapped, and 153 mm with the cap posted. The barrel is 12.4 mm wide, and the pen weighs 33 g capped and 19 g uncapped.
