Overview

The Montblanc Meisterstück Around the World in 80 Days LeGrand fountain pen follows the final leg of Phileas Fogg and Passepartout's adventure from Yokohama to London. Its dark blue precious resin cap is decorated with a laser-engraved train, a safety-chain motif, pressure valves, and locomotive smoke, developing the railway theme of Jules Verne's novel.

The red heart playing-card suit on the clip represents Fogg's union with Princess Aouda, while the other suits refer to his wager to circle the world in 80 days. The 14k gold nib bears the voyage dates and a hot-air balloon, the latter referring to Verne's first adventure novel and extending the tribute to his wider work.

The fountain pen closes with a screw-on cap. Made in Germany, it has a barrel length of 146.1 mm and a barrel width of 17.8 mm. It weighs 29.89 g with the cap.

I purchased a Montblanc LeGrand Special Edition pen

I purchased a Montblanc LeGrand Special Edition pen. The package arrived with the Montblanc pouch seal already broken.

When I queried this, I was advised that this is standard Iguana practice. I struggle to understand why the seal on a high-value item such as a Montblanc pen would be opened prior to delivery. Doing so creates unnecessary doubt about the product’s authenticity, condition and handling.

My previous Montblanc purchase was made directly from Montblanc, and the seal was intact. I therefore expected the same standard in this instance.
