Ball Engineer Master II Diver Chronometer brings an illuminated internal sapphire bezel and a blue dial to a 42 mm stainless steel case.
Sapphire forms the rotating elapsed-time scale beneath the crystal. The bezel turns in both directions inside the case, placing its elapsed-time markings within the dial’s layout. Gas-tube illumination extends from the hands and hour markers to that timing scale, so both readings stay illuminated without an outside light charge. There are 36 tritium tubes across the hands, dial, and bezel. This reference uses rainbow gas tubes across the blue dial, adding a range of colors to the nighttime display.
A magnified date accompanies the hours, minutes, and sweep seconds. The COSC-certified Ball RR1101-C automatic movement has a 42-hour power reserve. Amortiser protection absorbs lateral shocks, while a mu-metal shield redirects static and low-frequency magnetic fields around the movement. This nickel, iron, copper, and molybdenum alloy provides resistance to 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss).
This edition is limited to 1,000 watches. The stainless steel case measures 42 mm across and 13.5 mm thick. It has an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and screw-down crown, with shock resistance rated at 5,000 Gs and water resistance at 30 atm. A 21 mm stainless steel bracelet closes with a folding clasp.
The elapsed-time scale rotates beneath the crystal, inside the case, and turns in both directions. Gas tubes illuminate its markings continuously, extending the same self-powered lighting system used on the hands and dial to the timing scale.
This reference has rainbow tubes across the blue dial. There are 36 tubes in total across the hands, dial, and internal bezel. Tritium inside each sealed glass tube activates a luminous coating continuously, without a battery or prior exposure to light. The glow gradually fades as the tritium decays, with a half-life of about 12.3 years.
Amortiser surrounds the movement with a protective ring that absorbs energy from lateral shocks. A mu-metal shield redirects static and low-frequency magnetic fields around it, helping keep them from disturbing its rate. The watch is rated to 80,000 A/m (1,000 gauss); stronger magnetic fields can exceed that protection.
It passed independent chronometer testing over 15 days, in five positions and at three temperatures. The permitted average daily rate during the test is -4 to +6 seconds. This traditional test is performed before the movement is cased, so the watch’s rate in daily wear can vary.
Water resistance depends on the condition of the seals and correct closure of the crown and case. Seals change with age, so the pressure rating does not mean water resistance remains unchanged throughout the watch’s life. Follow Ball’s care and service instructions.
